A Special Invitation from Pastor Alf
I’m reading the 52 questions and answers from The New City Catechism as a spiritual discipline in 2024. Maybe you or your family will join me in this easy practice.
- We will print one set of questions and answers for every week of the year in the Thursday email and bulletin.
- Each week, a scripture is included.
- ALL ages can participate! In each question and answer, there is a shorter portion suitable for young children.
- If you want to go even deeper, The New City Catechism Devotional includes commentary from one ancient and one modern theologian and prayer.
- Or download the free New City Catechism app, which also has a children’s mode.
Please note that we are not offering the full PDF, as it is copyrighted material that is offered elsewhere for sale. The 52 individual questions and the summer preaching schedule may be found in the link below:
On the cover of The New City Catechism, it reads, “throughout the history of the church, Christians have used catechisms — collections of questions and answers designed for memorization and recitation — to teach others the core doctrines of the faith. The New City Catechism is a modern-day resource aimed at reintroducing this needed method of teaching to Christians today.” The New City Catechism is based on and adapted from John Calvin’s Geneva Catechism, The Westminster Shorter & Larger catechisms, and especially the Heidelberg Catechism, all documents that Presbyterians and Reformed Christians have used for generations to much benefit. The questions and answers, which relate to God, human nature, sin, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and more, can be used devotionally, recited out-loud together, or memorized throughout the week so that they go with you wherever you go. Since we will only use one set a week, there is plenty of time to ponder, discuss, and make them a part of your life.
Enjoy this bite-sized formation opportunity with me in 2024. I look forward to seeing the fruit from this cumulative effort.
